Date of Completion: Febuary 2019
I executed an animation project from storyboard stage through render and completion. I wanted to dive back into After Effects for animation. I composed the music first and then started story boarding the animation to the important musical beats. 2D combined using 3D parallaxing techniques to achieve a unique blend of perspective.
I was responsible for everything that you see. There are two actual photos of nebulas used and those were taken from Nasa.
Programs Used: After Effects
I lost my data in 2020 sadly. This project is included in that. I lost my storyboards and all related project files. What I can present is what I did have on other drives/online.
The logo text was created in after effects with the pen tool. I was going for a sharp and pointy feel and used splines to make basic shapes. Then I used a plugin called saber to create a lightning effects around the N and animated it. I had multiple shots to do, so storyboarding was important to get an idea of what I wanted. The story boards were just quick sketches in photoshop.
I then drew the pixel star in Photoshop using the pencil tool. I added FX to it and animated the glow in time with the music. I created the nebulas in photoshop and colored them with gradients, then layered them in the background. I animated the star to spin and used after effects 3D camera to create interesting movement in each scene of the animation.
For the main scene, I created a few patterns in photoshop using noise and distortion. I layered those on top of each other in after effects to create a spinning galaxy. Colored them in after effects. For the giant beam of energy I used a plugin called saber and animated its effect. I used camera effects like motion blur to give a sense of speed to the viewer.
Here's a couple behind the scenes videos of my after effects workspace. Showing how some of the animation was done.
